As you can see our computer application class's final project of the semester is to design a poster based on 'unnecessary knowledge' s hosted by a site called www.unkno.com
.
So among so many 'unnecessary knowledge's, I chose ' Giraffes can clean their ears with their tongue' because ever since young I have this fascination for giraffes, and the mental image that formed in my head when I saw the quote is quite amusing. I'd pictured a giraffe cleaning its ears using a cotton bud, held by non other than its tongue!
After presenting the basic idea to our computer application lecturer, Li Wen, he suggested that instead of the basic shape of the tongue (which looks boring) why not the shape of an arm instead? I found myself liking the concept, so I went on with the idea.
But I can't do much without any references right? I couldn't draw a giraffe from scratch, so I searched for some references and African backgrounds to put my giraffes into.
PICTURES!

THE PROCESS
I did a sketch without fully referencing the real giraffes because I wanted it to look a little more cartoonish than realistic. I did a smaller, younger giraffe beside the older one to show how surprised it is to see that his seniors can clean their ears with their tongue (even using a cotton bud. =D)
I've wanted the atmosphere to look like the picture below, so I stole the color scheme from here.
Um....apparently it didn't work well for my picture. Li Wen says it looks like hellfire. Giraffes in hell.Okay so it DOES look like hellfire. My giraffes are getting roasted.
So I decided to change the background. However after tweaking a little, I got fed up, and drew another new picture. Now this one looks more realistic. And instead of making the younger giraffe look surprised, I made it look like as if it was saying 'Okay stop it, it's gross.' and the other giraffe was still doing its business as usual.
Like one would say when someone digs his/her nose in public.
Instead of using 'inferno' color scheme, I changed to a more serene background. Color scheme taken from this picture.
After eye dropping the colors I realized that I was wrong about giraffe's color since I was 5. Giraffes are not YELLOW.
I tried tweaking the background colors using the 'Curves' tool but after various attempts I still stuck to the original colors.
And thus, it's done!

Hey very nice!!! Can you teach me how to do the coloring? I'm way awful in coloring in photoshop! ^___^ And yes can i have your phone number? LOL XD!
